Scaling Smarter: Tracking & Management Updates

We’ve released a round of improvements that make our sports tracking platform more flexible, more reliable, and easier to manage at scale. Every change is built on what we’ve learned from real-event usage and your feedback. We know RACEMAP has to scale that as your events grow.

Smarter Predictive Tracking

We’ve refined how we interpret raw data from the timing system. This solution reduces required settings for the timekeepers. So they can focus more on your participants’ experience.

Start Times

Observations: Previously, defining a too early start time caused dropping of valid readings as “too slow.”

Solution: We’ve removed the fragile, user-defined start-time setup. Instead, RACEMAP now detects the start of each participant automatically from the raw data. This reduces human error and flexibly adapts to a wide variety of event formats.

Finish Times

We’ve also implemented an auto-finish detection from raw data to ensure clean, accurate results: Finish reads are now automatically detected and added for smoother replays.

Improved M20 Tracker Communication

Some of our Indonesian users rely on superspring M20 trackers, which faced issues due to the GPS week rollover (a ~19.7-year reset of GPS time). This caused timestamps to appear ~20 years too early.

We’ve added a correction protocol so that M20 trackers now report accurate, real-world dates. This ensures historical consistency and keeps your live data aligned with reality.

Scalable Tracker & Role Management

For teams and organizations that rent out trackers across seasons or manage large pools of devices, assigning and reviewing roles is now much easier. With our new approach it is much easier to control devices' access tracking the tracker management.

  • When selecting multiple trackers, you can now view all users and their roles across them.
  • If a user isn’t linked to a tracker, the role shows as "None".
  • Identical roles (e.g., Owner, Editor, Borrower) across trackers are consolidated for clarity.
  • Edge cases (like multiple Editor assignments) are displayed transparently.

Bulk Role Management

  • Assign roles to multiple users at once across multiple trackers.
  • Remove users from several trackers simultaneously.
  • Quick role edits are now possible by clicking directly on a user’s role.

This update reduces administrative overhead, making tracker management scalable and future-proof for growing event organizations.

Prediction: Start & Finish Auto-Identification

We’ve introduced a new enhancement in how RACEMAP Prediction flexibly identifies start- and finish reads. We’re confident timekeepers will love this simplification.

Why this matters

After analyzing thousands of predictive tracking events going back over eight years, we found that one of the most common issues is incorrect start/finish setup - mostly due to human error. Since predictive tracking relies on precise timing information, even small mistakes affect the live experience.

What’s new

  • Auto-identification of start- & finish reads directly from forwarded detections
  • No additional configuration or imported start/finish times from participant data required
  • "Start" is automatically identified backwards with the 2nd detection on the racecourse

Easy configuration of RACEMAP prediction

  • Our algorithm automatically places reads at the most likely position on the course - even for laps, loops, or out-&-back segments.
  • With RACE RESULT readers, detections already include the locations, so setup has always been minimal.

How it works with different timing systems

  • ChronoTrack, MyLaps, RaceTec, and similar: These timing systems do not forward decoder locations. RACEMAP uses the split configuration to assign detections.
  • Fewer splits needed: Just group decoders by their physical location (e.g. one single split for “Start / Finish”)

Advantages for timekeepers

  • Less setup required: Quicker & easier event preparation
  • Fewer opportunities for mistakes
  • More reliable predictive tracking: Even for large-scale running vents with thousands of participants

Converter Release: MYLAPS & ChronoTrack Support

Predictive tracking uses sporadic split detections from timing systems to estimate participant positions, creating a smooth, realistic live visualization of a race - without requiring every participant to carry a GPS device.

The converter bridges timing systems with RACEMAP. It ingests detections from MYLAPS or ChronoTrack, transforms them into the required format, and forwards them to RACEMAP so the platform can compute and display real-time predictions seamlessly.

Quick Setup: Follow the guide to configure the forwarder for your timing system:
https://docs.racemap.com/predictive-tracking-with-data-from-timekeeping/other-timing-sytem/2-racemap-forwarder-new

Unified Live View: Combine predictive tracking with GPS devices or the RACEMAP app in one integrated visualization.

Check out the documentation and reach out if you’d like a demo or need assistance with integration.

Predictive Tracking Enhancements

Our latest release brings many enhancements for our predictive tracking solution: Your timing data now appears more lifelike, allowing you to dive into the data and optimize predictions even during the race.

Backend-Driven Filtering

  • Improved Performance & Reliability: We’ve moved the reader ID and transponder ID filters to the backend.
  • Unified Reads Display: The reads tab now consolidates all detections within the set event times into one comprehensive table.

Improved Start Time Insights

  • Enhanced Transparency for Start Times: We identified issues with start times in prediction events, especially those with many participants.
  • New Block in Status: A dedicated block has been added to the prediction setup’s status section to indicate potential issues with participant start times.
  • Scenario Differentiation: The new block differentiates between various start time scenarios.

Enhanced Analysis Section

  • New Identifier Column: New column displaying userId | customerId has been added for each starter.

Speed Chart Enhancements in Predictive Tracking

We’re excited to share the next improvement to our predictive live tracking. This update refines the speed graphs (Set speed, Live speed, and Replay speed) in the analysis section of prediction, ensuring clearer & more actionable insights.

In March, we introduced a new "jumping dots"-feature (beta) to address the discrepancy between the forecast of our prediction and the latest data from the timekeeping system. This feature quickly adjusts the dots' locations according to sporadic timing updates and the dots "jump" to the latest known location. Learn more about this feature in our previous announcement: https://updates.racemap.com/enhanced-predictive-live-tracking-with-jumping-dots-3152ik

We observed that the live speed graph displayed sharp peaks when dots were jumping, showing maximum speed values up to 1000 km/h that overshadowed the regular speed data. This made normal speed values hard to see and impossible to interpret.

We’ve now resolved this issue! The speed chart is more balanced, making it easy to read, analyze, and understand the data.
