Map Editor Rework, Smarter Elevation Chart and Safemap Updates

You asked. We built. This release is the biggest Map Editor update we've shipped in a while - driven by your feedback and user experience. Alongside it: Sharper dot rendering in the elevation chart and a round of Safemap enhancements that make alert navigation actually feel natural to use.

A Map Editor that gets out of your way

Map Editor - major rework

The view now behaves the way you'd intuitvely expect: it only zooms out when it needs to. If the selected elements are already in view, it recenters without touching your zoom level. If it's out of bounds, it adjusts. You stay in control without turning your mouse wheel.

Beyond the zoom improvements, this release adds a long list of enhancements and features built from your feedback:

  • For POIs paste and edit Lat/Lon
  • Select and move Splits directly from the Elevation chart
  • Drag and drop ordering for POIs and Tracks — the sequence carries through to the Player
  • Start and Finish Splits now protected from accidental deletion
  • Bulk remove buttons for all Tracks, all POIs, and all Splits

Elevation chart dots - better contrast

Dot stroke rework in elevation chart

Dot visibility on the elevation chart of the tracking map is improved. Stroke color now adapts based on the fill brightness - so dots stay readable regardless of background or marker color. Alpha channel values are now preserved and applied consistently across dots, and draw info rendering.

Safemap: alert navigation that works intuitively

URL state fixes and Google Maps integration

Alert and notification interactions in Safemap were inconsistent — in some cases, setting two URL states in sequence would overwrite each other. That's resolved. Here's how navigation now behaves:

  • Clicking an alert on a starter switches to the notifications/alerts section, selects the alert, selects the corresponding starter, and centers the map on the alert

  • Clicking the starter icon on an alert entry switches to the starter section, selects the starter, and shows their position on the map
  • On a notification, clicking the starter icon and clicking the alert are now separate actions - each zooms the map to the correct position
  • Any coordinate-based UI element (alert location tags, last-location tooltips) now includes a direct Open in Google Maps button

Test the intuitive user experience directly with our live demo: https://racemap.com/safemap/demo

A big thank you to everyone who sent feedback on the Map Editor and Safemap.
This release is yours.

UI Updates and Safemap Improvements

Our latest release is focused on one thing: less friction. From a more consistent interface across the platform to sharper tools for managing your Safemap — here's what's new.

Consistent panel UI across the platform

The panel for map settings and tracker management have been migrated to Ant Design — the same UI system used across the rest of RACEMAP. The interface is now visually consistent throughout, making navigation more intuitive wherever you work.

Preview of sidebar and filter tag settings

Configure the sidebar — and see it live in the preview! Visualization settings now provides a sidebar preview of your tracking map as you configure it. You can define the order of filter tag categories in the sidebar via drag and drop, and the preview shows your changes in real time — no guesswork before publishing.

Share Safemap access without admin overhead

We have added "Load Safemap without login" to the Advanced settings of Safemap. Any event creator can enable it directly — no admin rights needed. Sharing safety monitoring responsibility during a race just got simpler.

Safemap: improved participant interaction on the map

Navigate Safemap with more precision. Participant interaction on the map is now more responsive and intuitive. Clicking a dot in the map now selects the participant, hovering shows their bib number with a pointer cursor, and hovering a participant in the starter or alerts list highlights their position on the map — keeping the list and map in sync as you monitor your race.

These updates are live now. As always, if something isn't working the way you expect or you have feedback, reach out — we're listening.

Savemap and map updates: Improved charts, better visibility & enhanced interaction

This release improves the usability across Safemap and the map player experience. Based on customer feedback, we refined chart rendering, improved layout behavior, and added new interaction capabilities.

Read all details about Safemap and the elevation chart component in our documentation:

  • https://docs.racemap.com/live-tracking/profile

📈 Safemap chart improvements

We revisited the chart for better readability and trend visualization while still handling sparse GPS data correctly. Data points of distance from track, speed, and elevation are rendered with connected dots.

  • Added dedicated chart colors for better visual consistency
  • Enhanced legend readability for primary metrics
  • Improved axis styling and labeling

Our major concern with connected dots was that long gaps could create misleading visualizations. To solve this, the chart flexibly shows gaps:

  • Large data gaps automatically break the chart line
  • Gap thresholds are calculated dynamically based on median time intervals
  • Missing data is displayed accurately while preserving trend readability

📋 Flexible Safemap header

We improved header behavior when filters are expanded. Now, opening filters shrink the header area and hide the event details: Start- and end time, length of the shadowtrack.

  • Header now adapts more intelligently to available space
  • Compact mode is applied dynamically when filters are expanded
  • Improved logo scaling and layout responsiveness
  • More usable space for participant and alert tables

🚨 Participant Status in Alerts & Notifications

Alerts and notifications now display the participant status such as DNF, DSQ directly. This makes operational monitoring much clearer, especially during live race situations.

⛰️ Elevation Chart Zoom Functionality

The elevation profile now supports zooming both:

  • in the tracking map and
  • in the standalone elevation chart component.

New interactions:

  • Mouse wheel zoom
  • Pinch zoom support for usage on smartphones
  • Double-click reset

Latest Safemap & Platform Release

We’re excited to introduce a new release packed with improvements across Safemap, Tracker Management, and Event Settings. This update brings more control, better previews, smarter alert handling, and usability enhancements for teams in the field.

Safemap updates

🔇 Global alert mute control

Event hosts now mute alerts & notification sounds globally with a single event-level setting.

Benefits:

  • Disable sound alerts by default, to customize Safemap according to events requirements
  • Better control for quiet environments or control rooms
  • Faster setup for large-scale events

👀 Preview mode

Safemap now supports a preview mode to help you validate configurations and showcase the dashboard before activation. The preview shows a realistic Safemap experience using a limited set of participants while preserving full tracking and alert logic.

What’s included:

  • Preview available when Safemap is not yet activated
  • Limited number of visible participants
  • Watermark to clearly identify preview mode

Benefits:

  • Confirm settings before going live
  • Great for demos and customer acquisition
  • Experience real behavior without full event activation

🏷️ Tag-based alert suppression

A powerful alert suppression system has been added based on participant tags. Configure Safemap to suppress alerts for participants whose assigned tags match selected key/value rules, such as "finished", "DSQ".

Capabilities:

  • Search and manage participant tags in a dedicated table
  • See how many participants are assigned to each tag
  • Visibility why a participant receives no alerts:
    • Protected zone suppression
    • Tag-based suppression

Benefits:

  • More precise alert control
  • Reduce noise from known or exempt participant groups
  • Better transparency for operations teams

🎨 Improved track colors

Tracks show their own configured color in Safemap. With this improvement, track overlays are clearer and visually aligned with their intended appearance.

Benefits:

  • Better map readability
  • More accurate visual representation
  • Easier distinction between tracks

Tracker Management Updates

📱 Improved mobile usability

We’ve improved column visibility controls for smaller screens such as smartphones. Previously, managing visible columns on mobile devices was difficult. The updated interface now offers a cleaner popup layout with improved height handling and scrolling behavior.

Good to know: Tracker Management is still primarily optimized for desktop use—but for those managing trackers on the go, this is a welcome upgrade.

Event settings updates

🔑 Endpoint to query keys added

A new API endpoint is now available for querying keys in Event Settings. This expands integration options and makes key management more accessible for connected workflows.

Track Style Customization, Safemap Gaps, Tracker Config Updates

Track Style Customization

Live tracking with multiple tracks is now more flexible and easier to read for spectators. In the map settings, you can adjust both line width and opacity of each track separately, giving full control over how they appear in the visualization.

We also replaced the previous color picker library with the Ant Design color picker, unifying track styles across the system for a cleaner, consistent look.

Track Chart in Safemap: Visual Breaks for Gaps

The track chart in Safemap previously connected all time gaps in GPS data with a line, implying continuous movement that didn’t exist. Now, lines are removed where data is missing, showing tracker data more clear.

Tracker Management: Configuration Update Progress

Tracker management now records the configuration update process in the message history, giving you more confidence when adjusting tracking configurations across devices to meet specific event requirements. Each configuration change is timestamped and displayed in the tracker message history, making troubleshooting easier if updates fail.

Improved Network Transparency, Prediction Insights, Safemap Accuracy

Tracker Management

Enhancement

To give operators better insight into connectivity of their GPS trackers and carrier behavior, we’ve added new network-related visibility:

  • New Network tab in Tracker Management
  • Carrier and network information is now also displayed in the track chart

These additions help diagnose connectivity issues faster and support more informed operational decisions such as black listing a specifc carrier during live tracking.

Fix

The tracker management now shows the correct timestamp for when a device goes offline or when the socket connection is closed.

📘 Full details: https://docs.racemap.com/tracker-management

Predictive Tracking

A new column has been added to the Transponders tab, showing the total number of received reads during the race. This makes data completeness and transponder performance easier to assess at a glance.

📘 Full details: https://docs.racemap.com/prediction

Safemap

The chart in Safemap now displays elevation data based on the actual received GPS position of the selected tracker, rather than the predefined race course.

Why this matters: If a participant moves off the official course, the elevation information now remains accurate and reflects the real position — improving situational awareness for operators.

New Release: Advancing Tracking Reliability

This release introduces further enhancements across our sports tracking platform, improving tracking reliability and operational confidence.

Safemap: More Context, Better Decisions

Safemap now supports multiple map styles, including satellite view, allowing operators to choose the most suitable visual context for their environment and operational needs.

Tracker Management: More Insight Into Connectivity

Reliable live tracking depends heavily on connection quality — which is impacted SIM reception, modem behavior, and carrier performance. To support operators more effectively, we are rolling out a series of improvements that provide deeper insight into connectivity and help debugging potential issues earlier.

With this release:

  • Signal strength is now visible for each tracker of the Queclink GL3xx series.
  • The chart has been extended with network-related information.

These enhancements give operators clearer visibility into connection quality and form the foundation for upcoming reliability improvements.

This is the first step in a broader effort where we’ll continue to introduce tools and capabilities designed to improve tracking stability — including closer integration and collaboration around our dedicated M2M SIM cards.
